on 31 July 2013

Gmail is one of the feature-rich Internet based Email platforms. You can say it is a lot more than just an Email account. You use its added feature such as Google Drive, calendar and YouTube. But what if a hacker gets a chance to enter into your Gmail account? If this happen, the hacker would get an opportunity to access your confidential messages, your schedule meetings, your docs on Drive, etc. Gmail is a constant target of the hackers because when they succeed in their attempt, they receive a good income. In order to protect your Gmail account, Google created a few mechanisms.

Two-Step Verification:

This method gives a strong layer of protection to your account. When you include this feature, you get a text message including confirmation every time you access the account. After that, Gmail requests this code when you sign in to your account. This two step verification asks for two things so that you can access your account-the first thing is the password and the other one is the text message you get into your cell phone.

Notifications:

This feature provides the security of your account. This will update you by email or phone if there is an alteration in your security password, or if somebody else accesses your account. This will enable you take a quick action if a hacker is trying to hack your account or try to change the password.

Connected Applications and Sites:

Gmail can commune with some other websites; you need to decide whether you want these sites access your Gmail account. Beware some hackers make use of this option to make an attempt to access some others accounts. Therefore, you should check the list of the linked applications and site. You should also make sure that you trust everyone on the sites. If you are not, just take them off.
